Wild raspberry and red cherry characters dominate while soft sweet brown spice characters add in detail. Savoury red cherry notes lead the wine onto the palate; the wine flows with good texture. Fine elegant tannins rise out of the mid-palate and with wild raspberry notes drive the finish alongside fine acidity.

Building on over 20 years of producing wine from New Zealand's iconic Marlborough region, our winemakers select grapes from the different parts of the region, that offer a unique expression of key varietals.

Layers of dark berry and rich cherry meld with sweet florals and warm oak spice. An elegant and complex palate rests on distinctive cool climate acidity and ripe concentrated red fruits. Subtle spice, finely tuned tannins and velvety textures extend the length and finish.

Seductively heady aromas of rose petals, dried cranberry and bright crunchy red cherries. Dried thyme, roasted coffee bean, dark chocolate and just a faint wisp of candle smoke. The palate has flavours of dark plum and chocolate dipped cherries. A spark of bright acidity illuminates the mid palate, carrying through to a finish that lingers long past the last sip.

Upon release the wine is bright ruby in colour. There is a teasing array of vibrant red fruit on the nose including raspberry, pomegranate, cherry and plum. Spice and herbal notes, as well as a savoury underlay, add to the wine's complexity. While the palate has generous fruit weight and velvety tannins, it is balanced with refreshing acidity and a structure that gives the wine classic North Canterbury tension and pinosity.

Upon release the colour is deep ruby. The bouquet is a seductive patchwork of red and dark fruit, with hints of violet, liquorice and a dried herb complexity. But there is more, autumn undergrowth giving way to sweet spice and smoky mineral notes. Fine grained silky tannins and bright acidity dance harmoniously on the palate, balanced by a dense core of ripe fruit. Elegant and haunting, yet powerful, with classic structure and a prolonged satisfying finish. While ready to drink on release it can be expected to cellar well and evolve gracefully for many years.

Rich red berry aromatics and underlying spice notes fuse with a delicately structured palate layered with hints of cacao, gorgeously pure fruit, subtle oak and silky tannins. Fresh red berry, star anise, wild strawberry and pretty floral aromas combine with lovely bright red fruit, gentle spice and subtle creaminess. A pure expression of Central Otago Pinot Noir. Luscious and fruit focussed with great flavour and soft supple tannin.

Dense, sustained ruby/garnet. Dizzingly aromatic, swells from the glass: indurate spice - clove, cumin, caraway, cassia; ripe and bright red fruit - raspberry, redcurrant, Morello cherry. Quite a head-spinning, aromatic ride. Penetrating, juicy, sappy, brisk yet enveloping; vibrant flavours of red fruit and spice; also a lively earthy component that is relatively new to this vineyard, arriving in recent vintages: born of vine age and a deeper root structure, no doubt. One could hardly ask for a more invigorating, seductive, and briskly legitimate example of this wine.

Land that was once a high country sheep station is now a flourishing vineyard. Sheep and rabbits co-existed on the land for quite some time but the sheep couldn't keep up with the nocturnal activity of the rabbits, and in the end were driven off the land. The owner of the Rabbit Ranch - Mr McGregor, planted some vines and tried unsuccessfully to reduce the rabbit population. Rabbits now run free on the vineyard and fueled by high altitude Pinot Noir, some are reputed to be the size of ponies, but that's another story... Central Otago Pinot Noirs are becoming world famous as brilliant examples of the potential of the elusive perfumed Pinot Noir grape when grown in areas of complementary terroir. Like Burgundy - cool climate, inland sites are required, close to the 45th parallel to ensure a long slow ripening period. Pinot Noir quality is very yield sensitive and Central Otago Pinot Noirs are no exception to that rule. The Rabbit Ranch Pinot Noir is made in a very soft, fruit forward, low tannin style - a wine to be savoured and supped, rather than an assault on the senses.
