Micro-distilled in small batch copper-pot stills, Empress 1908 is hand-crafted using eight signature botanicals: tea, juniper, rose, coriander seed, grapefruit peel, ginger root, cinnamon bark, and butterfly pea blossom. It's the pea blossom, which we discovered in one of the Empress tea blends, that imbues the gin with a distinctive earthy note. The distinct flavour and colour of Empress 1908 comes from the infusion of tea botanicals. No artificial colours or stabilisers are used in its creation - so while the flavour will last forever, its unique indigo hue will not. With this limited edition bottling it has combined the original Victor Gin botanicals; juniper, lemon, lemon grass, cardamom and coriander, with the fruity, delicate flavour of fresh chardonnay grape must. The distillery is located in one of NZ's oldest wine regions, North West of Auckland. The region is famous for its Chardonnay, so it seemed only fitting that they pay homage to this grape. Champagne made from only Chardonnay is referred to as 'Blanc de Blancs' or white of whites.
